This is a small theater in Shimokitazawa. It is used by young actor and sometimes it open as a café or workshop.
The order is just to make bookshelf which can hold 1500 books and 40 sheets. He also needs the idea to utilize this space effectively.
First, we built in two kinds of table, big one and small one. We tear away original wall paper and leave it as it is. This yellowish bare plasterboard is unity with the color of plywood.
How we sit at these tables, we can use this space differently. You may feel incongruous with this but you can use here in any way. This project is aimed at its, not being bound by existing image, becoming the place of creating new direction = new use.

下北沢のはずれにある小さな劇場。そこに施主が保有す2000冊分の本棚と40人分の客席をつくってほしいという奇妙なオーダーから始まった計画です。
主に若手役者さんのステージとして使われていた場所でしたが時にはカフェとして解放したり、ワークスペースとして使用したり、限定された賃貸期間のなか「できるだけこの場所を使い切れる様にしてほしい」という要望から、ここでは大小２種類のテーブルをつくりました。
テーブルの「座り方」によってこの場所の用途は変わります。
そして基本的に内装の仕上は行わず、クロスを剥がした石膏ボードと構造用合板の黄みがかった色が、ゆるやかに全体の統一感を感じさせる程度としました。
一見、違和感だらけのこの場所は人が使うことで初めて用途が見えてきます。
既成のイメージに縛られず、新たなパフォーマンス＝使い方が生まれる場所になる事を目指しました。
