Christmas Illumination Plan for Tokyo's Hibiya.
At the time, the surrounding area was undergoing large-scale redevelopment, including the reconstruction of commercial facilities and road expansion, which was scheduled to continue until the following year, 2018. Consequently, the area was filled with construction vehicles and materials, which obscured the existing commercial facilities.
To address this, we planned to install a giant traffic cone at the center of the development and transform it into a Christmas tree. We also planned illuminations that would turn the temporary enclosure around the surrounding facilities into gift boxes by decorating them with construction guide lights and similar elements.
This approach was designed to make the construction site appear as a delightful gift itself, while also serving as a teaser advertisement for the grand reopening the following spring.
The adjacent commercial facility was shaped to resemble a grand piano, so the main giant traffic cone was scaled to match, standing at 7 meters tall.
東京日比谷におけるクリスマスイルミネーションの計画。
当時周辺は大規模商業施設の建替えとこれに伴う道路の拡張が進行中で翌年2018年までこの大規模な再開発は続く予定であった。このため周辺は工事車両や資材に満たされ、既存の商業施設はこれらに埋もれてしまっていた。
そこで私たちはこの開発の中心に巨大なカラーコーンをたて、これをクリスマスツリーとするプランを提案、そして周辺施設の仮囲いを工事誘導灯などで飾りつけすることでプレゼントボックスに見立てたイルミネーションを計画した。
これにより工事現場がまるでお楽しみプレゼントであるかのように映り、翌春のリニューアルオープンのティザー広告としても機能するように計画した。
隣接する商業施設はグランドピアノの形を模してつくられていたため、メインの巨大カラーコーンはこのスケールに合わせ高さ7mとしている。
